Northampton, MA : Two seriously injured in military convoy crash on I-91 North in Northampton on Saturday, January 10, 2015

State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that involved military convoys on Route 91 in Northampton, Saturday morning.

According to the State Police, around 11:15 a.m. Saturday, two military trucks were traveling on Route 91 North when they attempted to maneuver into the breakdown lane, and that’s when one of the trucks rear ended the other.

Two people inside the truck that rear-ended the other were trapped in the cab of the vehicle. State Police said the Northampton Fire Department were able to free the driver, 24-year-old Michael Andolena of Naugatuck, CT, and the passenger, 19-year-old Alyssa Brenner of Terryville, CT.

Both were taken to Baystate Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. None of the three people in the first truck were injured.

The crash remains under investigation, but State Police Sgt. Tom Ryan told 22News that this accident may have been as a result of another two car accident that happened on I-91.

State Police were assisted on scene by Mass DOT. The right travel lane on Route 91 North was closed for about 5 hours for removal of the vehicles and cleanup.
