A 71-year-old man was killed Monday in a two-vehicle crash in Brighton Park on the Southwest Side.
The man was driving west about 9 a.m. in the 2700 block of West 36th Place when he disregarded a stop sign at California Avenue and struck the side of a northbound vehicle, Chicago police said.
The 71-year-old was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
The driver of the struck vehicle, a 21-year-old man, was taken to the same hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. He was issued a citation for driving an uninsured vehicle.
An autopsy released Tuesday found the 71-year-old died from blunt force injuries to his chest from the crash, the medical examiner’s office said.
Chicago police’s Major Accidents team is investigating, police said.
