Pittsburgh, PA : West Deer police investigating crash between car, Deer Lakes school van on November, Wednesday 29th 2017
West Deer police are investigating a crash between a car and a Deer Lakes School District van in which both drivers, a student aide and a 6-year-old pupil were injured.
Police Chief Jonathan Lape said that the crash happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Middle Road and Route 910.
Lape said Friday that the van was taking the student home. Deer Lakes spokesman Jim Cromie said the pupil is in kindergarten.
Cromie said that in addition to the driver and student, an aide was also in the van. The aide was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
The chief said Joseph Logue Jr., 82, was driving a van for Deer Lakes bus contractor W.L. Roenigk north on Middle Road. He said the 6-year-old was properly secured in a booster seat.
Logue came to the T-intersection with Route 910, where there is a stop sign on Middle Road.
The chief said Logue proceeded to turn onto Route 910 and was hit by a car driven by Alex Dusek, 17.
Lape said the child suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital by his mother.
Dusek was the most seriously hurt and was taken by ambulance to UPMC Mercy. In an email Friday morning, Dusek said he was “fine.”
Logue was taken to Allegheny Valley Hospital in Harrison, Lape said.
Lape said police were still investigating to determine if any citations will be issued.
The road was closed for about 90 minutes.
