Henderson,NV: Bicyclist killed in a hit-and-run crash on Eastern Avenue near Evansville Avenue on Saturday afternoon,15th November 2014
The Clark County Coroner's Office has identified Mario Regalado of Las Vegas as the bicyclist killed in a hit-and-run crash on Eastern Avenue near Evansville Avenue.
Henderson Police said the driver of the car fled the scene after he hit the 43-year-old from behind when he was riding his bike. It happened in the right lane near the curb around 2 p.m.
Officers said traffic was moving slowly when the suspect's car, tried to switch lanes, but police said the driver, whose identity is still a mystery was speeding.
Henderson Police said it was a passerby who stopped to help Regalado and call 911 after he was hit. The 43-year-old was taken to St. Rose Dominican Hospital – Siena Campus where he was pronounced dead.
The hit-and-run vehicle is described as a blue 1990s model Honda or Acura sedan with Nevada license plate 871-LZH. The vehicle was last seen on Eastern Avenue by Grand Hills Drive, according to witnesses.
Officers said the vehicle had a smashed windshield and damage to the hood. The driver is described as an adult male wearing a flat-brimmed baseball cap.
Henderson Police said the roadway was closed for about three and half hours while they investigated. The Regalado's death was the 12th traffic-related fatality in Henderson this year.
So far this year, 243 people have died on the state's roadways with 138 of those fatalities occurring in Clark County, according to Henderson Police. In 2013, there were a total of 265 traffic-related fatalities in Nevada and eight traffic-related fatalities in Henderson.
