GAINESVILLE, FL : Florida woman, child killed in interstate crash on Interstate 75 near Gainesville on Sunday, 5th August 2018

Authorities say a Florida woman and child have died after crashing a vehicle into a semitrailer and a tree.

The Gainesville Sun reports that the crash happened early Sunday on Interstate 75 near Gainesville.

Florida Highway Patrol says 26-year-old Sherickea Petula Ferguson was driving south on I-75 when she veered right and clipped a semi that was stopped in the emergency lane. Ferguson’s vehicle continued and crashed head-on into a tree.

Officials say Ferguson and her passenger, 8-year-old Jahaziel Ferguson, died from their injuries.

A driver and passenger in the semi didn’t report any injuries.
