Albuquerque, NM : Man injured after a car crashed into a power pole near Louisiana and Lomas on Saturday night, February 21, 2015

A man is recovering tonight after crashing into a utility pole on Louisiana near Lomas. His accident caused the power to go out across the street at the fairgrounds, leaving thousands outside in the cold.
Had it happened later, it might've caused Expo New Mexico to cancel Monster Jam and that would’ve left a lot of unhappy campers. Luckily, the show still went on.
"I was going right here on Louisiana and I heard a very loud ruckus, like a boom," witness Matthew Dominquez said.
He was on his way home from work around 6 p.m. Saturday when he says he heard a vehicle crash into an electrical pole.
"The intersection lights starting going off, that's when I said something is really going bad around here," Dominquez said.
About a dozen paramedics pried the man out of his car. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
But the driver didn't just mess up the streetlights. He caused the power to go out across the street at Tingley Coliseum, where nearly 8,000 people were waiting to see Monster Jam.
General manager Dan Mourning says about 1,000 people were already inside when the power went out, attending the pit party.
He said the lights never went off because they have a generator, but he decided to keep more people from coming in because he wasn't going to start the show until the ventilators worked, considering the event was going to create a lot of exhaust fumes.
"PNM immediately jumped on it. Brought their emergency team out here. Did a masterful job of getting the power back on," Mourning said.
The show was still able to start on time.
Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the crash. They do not believe alcohol was a factor.
