VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL : Florida deputy killed in bike crash on Sunday, 2nd June 2019
A Volusia County Sheriff's Office deputy considered "legendary" in his career died after a van hit him while out on a bike ride.
Senior Deputy Frank Scofield was heading southbound Sunday morning toward the intersection of Tomoka Farms Road and Pioneer Trail when a van reportedly blew through the stop sign and crashed into him.He was 58 years old.
The sheriff's office released the following statement:
"Today, we lost one of the best. Senior Deputy Frank Scofield, 58, lost his life this morning when a vehicle failed to stop at the intersection of Tomoka Farms Road and Pioneer Trail and hit Scofield on his bicycle.
"Florida Highway Patrol is handling the crash investigation."
