Sidney, ME : Jay woman dies in 2-vehicle crash on Route 27 on Sunday, December 6, 2015
Passers-by pulled an 8-year-old child from a burning Toyota Tundra after a two-vehicle collision on Route 27 on Sunday, in which a Jay woman died and a Windsor man suffered a broken leg, state police said.
The accident occurred at 1:30 p.m. Sherry Turner, 53, of Jay was pronounced dead at the scene in her 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup. The child, who suffered a head injury but was conscious and alert, was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Maine Medical Center of Portland, Trooper Rick Moody said.
Early investigation revealed that Turner was southbound when her truck crossed the centerline and hit the oncoming Toyota. The Tundra rolled over and caught fire, Moody said.
Of the two other Tundra passengers, 52-year-old Raymond Rice suffered the broken bone and Robert Rice, 55, also of Windsor, was not injured, Moody said.
The investigation is ongoing, state police said.
