Swanton, VT : Crash on Interstate 89 late Wednesday night sent two people to the hospital on September 3rd 2014
A crash on Interstate 89 late Wednesday night sent two people to the hospital.
Police say around 11 p.m. Wednesday a car went off the northbound lane in Swanton, hitting guard rails before smashing into a tree. Two people in their mid 20s were inside the car. Officials say the driver was trapped inside the vehicle for about an hour while crews worked to free him. Both people in the car were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say drugs and alcohol don't appear to be a factor. They say the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
"We had a single vehicle with one patient entrapped," Swanton Assistant Fire Chief Jason Cross said. "We had to cut the roof off the vehicle and extricate him out and he is currently being transported to Northwest."
The driver suffered leg injuries, and the condition of the passengers is unknown.
