Clinton,TN : Clinton man killed in car crash on December, Sunday 10th 2017

A 40-year-old Clinton man was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Dutch Valley Road at 2:53 p.m. Sunday.

Killed in the crash was Winston T. Nelson, the driver and lone occupant of the 1992 Mazda Miata, according to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Nelson, who was not wearing seatbelts, was ejected from the car.

The vehicle was traveling east on Dutch Valley Road in Clinton, but near Oliver Springs, when it failed to maintain its own lane and swerved to avoid crashing into a westbound vehicle, according to the report. The driver reportedly lost control of the car and left the road, going onto the left shoulder and striking an embankment, and then an AT&T phone box.

According to the THP, the vehicle then began to spin and collided with a tree, and that collision caused it to continue spinning until it stopped on the left shoulder and the driver was ejected out the top of the car.

The crash happened at 1244 Dutch Valley Road near Smith Road.

Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Mark Lucas, chief deputy with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department. He said the THP, deputies, the Anderson County Emergency Medical Services and the Marlow Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash

No drugs or alcohol were suspected, according to the THP. However, tests were ordered as is routine in a fatal crash
