PERU, NE : 1 injured in school bus crash on State Road 18 on Tuesday, 28th May 2019
A woman was transported after she crashed into the back of a Maconaquah school bus Tuesday morning.
Indiana State Police officers and deputies with the Miami County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash on State Road 18 just after 7:30 a.m., according to a news release from the State Police. ISP said no students were injured in the crash.
According to the release, the Maconaquah School Corporation bus, driven by 56-year-old Carl Philpot of Peru, had stopped in front of a home in the Bennetts Switch area to pick up a student.
"As the student entered the bus, the bus was rear-ended by a 2012 Chrysler minivan," the release said.
The driver of the van, Sarah Watson, 28, of Galveston, was taken to Dukes Hospital with lacerations to her arms and legs, according to police.
Neither Philpot nor any students were seriously injured, police said, though a release from the school district said paramedics saw to minor injuries of three students before they were released.
The crash is still under investigation, but police said drugs or alcohol are not believed to have been involved.
