St. Johns County, FL : A single-car crash in northeastern St. Johns County on Monday, 20th August 2018

Authorities pronounced a Ponte Vedra Beach man dead Monday morning after discovering a single-car crash in northeastern St. Johns County.

The crash closed down a section of Solana Road during the morning hours.

By that afternoon, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office identified the man killed as 22-year-old Austen Stoddard Jenney.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Chuck Mulligan said deputies got the first call about the crash as the sun came up, but investigators believe the crash likely happened late Sunday night or early Monday morning and was just not seen by passersby until day broke.

The preliminary investigation shows that Jenney was likely traveling westbound in the 500 block of Solana road at a high rate of speed, when his car left the road in a curve, Mulligan said.
