Los Angeles, CA : Female passenger severely injured after car crashed into a street sign in the Exposition Park area early Wednesday morning, April 13, 2016

A female passenger was severely injured and the man driving was detained after his car crashed into a street sign in the Exposition Park area of Los Angeles early this morning, a police sergeant said.

It happened about 1:20 a.m. in the 4000 block of Vermont Avenue, near the intersection with Martin Luther King Boulevard, Los Angeles police Sgt. Carlton Brown said.

“The woman was seriously injured and is now in surgery at California Hospital,” Brown said, adding he didn’t know the extent of her injuries.

The driver was detained by police and was being interviewed by detectives early this morning, he said.

“He was detained,” Brown said. “He hasn’t been officially arrested at this point.”
