WATONGA, OK : Two are injured in collision in Blaine County on Wednesday, August 9, 2017

A two-vehicle collision closed a portion of U.S. 270 for more than five hours early Wednesday morning, Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

The collision occurred at 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 270 and County Road 2500 about 7 miles west of Watonga, according to OHP. The westbound lanes of U.S. 270 were closed for five hours and 32 minutes, reopening at 7:02 a.m.

A 2003 Mack truck, driven by Otis Carter Jr., 41, of Oklahoma City, was northbound on the county road, according to the report. A 2011 Ford F-450 pulling a 40-foot goose-neck trailer, driven by Christopher Kostuik, 32, of Morrill, Kan., was eastbound on U.S. 270.

Carter failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection for an unknown reason, striking the Ford’s passenger side, according to the report. Kostuik was pinned for about 30 minutes before being freed by Watonga Fire Department.

Carter was transported from the scene by Watonga EMS to Mercy Hospital in Watonga. He was treated for arm, leg and head injuries and released, according to the report. Kostuik was transported by Air-Evac to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City and was admitted in stable condition with unknown injuries.

Carter’s condition is listed as “apparently normal” and Kostuik’s condition remains under investigation. The patrol still is investigating the usage of seat belts in the crash.
