Immokalee,FL : Teen bicyclist seriously injured in hit-and-run crash in Immokalee on August, Thursday 17th 2017

A teenager on a bicycle was seriously injured Thursday night when he rode into the path of a vehicle that left the scene of the crash in Immokalee.

Fifteen-year-old Rigoberto Martinez was seriously injured in the crash, which occurred just after 7:15 p.m. on North Fourth Street, Florida Highway Patrol reports show. The teen was taken to NCH North Collier Hospital in North Naples.

An unknown vehicle was northbound on North Fourth Street, south of Second Avenue when the bicyclist, riding parallel on the sidewalk, failed to yield the right of way and turned to cross the street directly in front of the vehicle. The front right of the vehicle struck the right side of the bicycle, FHP reports.

The vehicle fled the scene, traveling north on North Fourth Street and has not been located. Charges are pending an investigation.

Based on the statement from a witness to the crash, the vehicle is described as possibly a white Lincoln passenger car with tinted windows and front-end damage. Anyone with information regarding the vehicle or its driver are asked to call the FHP at 239-938-1000.
