Austin,TX : DPS releases the name of an 11-month-old killed in a Wednesday car crash on December, Wednesday 27th 2017

An 11-month-old child was killed and three children were injured Wednesday in a three-vehicle crash on Texas State Highway 64.

Eleven-month-old Jaylyn Howland, of Tyler, was taken to ETMC-Tyler where she was later pronounced dead after the vehicle she was in struck a vehicle and was subsequently struck by another vehicle.

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to the fatal crash shortly after 5:30 p.m. about two miles west of Tyler on Highway 64.


A preliminary crash investigation revealed that Jason Howland, 36, of Tyler was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty and traveling westbound in the inside lane of Highway 64 West while a 1996 Mazda Protégé driven by 49 year-old Timoteo Villedas-Rosales of Tyler, was traveling in the outside lane.


Howland became distracted in the vehicle and drove into the outside lane striking the Mazda Protégé, according ot the DPS. Howland overcorrected to the left, and swerved into the eastbound lane where the Jeep Liberty was struck by a 2006 Toyota Tundra, driven by Douglas Harris, 43, of Tyler.

Howland was not injured in the crash, nor was his passenger, Frederick Fitzgerald, 36, of Dallas.


Additionally, two 5-year-olds and a 4-year-old passenger were taken to ETMC-Tyler in stable condition.

Harris was taken to Christus Mother Francis Hospital in stable condition.

Villedas-Rosales was not injured in the crash.

All occupants of the vehicles involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts and the 11-month-old was in a child safety seat, according to the DPS.
