Indiantown,FL : Tractor-trailer crash near Lake Okeechobee kills man, 68 on September, Friday 15th 2017

A 68-year-old man died Friday morning in a tractor-trailer wreck northwest of Indiantown, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Nathaniel Hawthorne Jr. of Lake Placid was a passenger in a 2000 Kenwood Truck that crashed at about 10:30 a.m. Friday as it was westbound on Southwest Martin Highway near Lake Okeechobee, FHP said in a crash report. The truck was “negotiating a left curve” but overturned onto the north shoulder of the road.

Hawthorne was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Travis Devon Wiggins Jr., 21, of Lake Placid, was not injured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but no evidence at the scene suggests that alcohol played a role. It was unknown if either Hawthorne or Wiggins was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
