Lowell, MA : Woman cited in ambulance rollover crash in Lowell early Saturday morning on September 27, 2014
A 29-year-old Lowell woman was cited and two EMTs escaped serious injury after a collision between an ambulance and another vehicle caused the ambulance to roll onto its side on Fletcher Street early Saturday morning.
Police said a Trinity Ambulance driven by Samantha Cormier, 23, of Lowell, was en route to a call with lights and sirens activated when it collided with a vehicle driven by Rachel Bender, 29, of Lowell, on Fletcher Street near Broadway Street about 1:40 a.m.
The ambulance did not have any patients on board at the time.
John Chemaly, co-owner of Trinity Ambulance, said both Cormier and another EMT who was working in the ambulance were treated and released at the hospital following the crash.
Police said Bender wasn't injured. However, she was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, operating after suspension, and operating an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, according to Capt. Timothy Crowley.
Chemaly said the ambulance is likely totaled, but that Trinity has about 10 spare ambulances so operations will not be effected.
