Northampton County, PA : Roseto motorcyclist killed in Route 512 crash in Bushkill Township on Wednesday afternoon, September 21, 2016

A motorcyclist from Roseto was killed Wednesday afternoon in Bushkill Township when his bike collided on Route 512 with a pickup truck turning into his path, authorities said.

Richard Gower, 47, of the 400 block of Liberty Avenue, was pronounced dead at Route 512 and Miller Road, the Northampton County coroner's office said. The crash happened about 2:55 p.m.

The pickup appeared to be turning left from Miller Road to go south on Route 512 as the biker was coming north, said Thomas Heath, who lives at the intersection.

"By the time he [Gower] reacted, he was out of room," Heath said. "I don't know if he even had time to put his brakes on."

Gower landed 5 feet from his bike, Heath said.

The motorcyclist was riding toward Wind Gap on Route 512, which also is called Moorestown Road in the area, he said.

Bushkill police Cpl. David Marino confirmed the motorcycle was northbound on Route 512 and the pickup was coming out of Miller Road, but he said police had not yet determined which way the pickup was turning.

A man was driving the pickup, Marino said, but he did not have the driver's name.

"There's no one deemed to be at fault at this point, because of the investigation," he said. "The investigation isn't over, and state police are assisting in the investigation."

Heath said he heard the crash from inside his house.

"I was in the kitchen, and I heard a thud," he said. "I thought, what the hell was that?"

He went outside and found the pickup stopped in the intersection and Gower lying in the road, he said. A woman had stopped to help. The woman had some emergency training, he said.

"She said he had a weak pulse, but it was fading quickly," he said. "She stayed with him until the ambulance got here."

Paramedics soon arrived, but they were unable to keep Gower alive. The coroner's office was called as police started their investigation.

A deputy coroner later pronounced the motorcyclist dead. The coroner's office said Gower died of traumatic injuries, and his death was ruled an accident.

Heath said accidents are common at the intersection because drivers tend to go too fast as they come down the Route 512 hill from Doughboy's Restaurant.

"There's at least three accidents a year in front of my house," he said. "They really accelerate down this hill. Everyone does."
