MILWAUKEE, WI : A 56-year-old woman was hit and killed by a vehicle on Wednesday, November, 15th 2017

A 56-year-old woman was hit and killed by a vehicle near 99th Street and Bluemound Road in Milwaukee on Wednesday morning.

The driver, a 72-year-old man, remained on the scene, officials said.

A woman who lives down the road said drivers speed on Bluemound road often, and they don't pay attention to the pedestrian walkway at the intersection.

"People are not used to seeing the light there. When it's flashing, they just blow through it, or if it's solid red sometimes they stop. Sometimes they don't. I've been worried this was going to happen for a long time, and I'm very sad that this happened," Beth Schulz said.

The incident closed Bluemound Road at Highway 100 to traffic.
