Grass Valley, CA : 17-year-old killed in a head-on crash on Highway 49 in Nevada County on Saturday, February 7, 2015

A 17-year-old girl was killed Saturday night in a two-car crash on Highway 49 and Oak Drive in South Nevada County.

The teen, whose identity was being withheld because she is a juvenile, was driving a Subaru Impreza wagon southbound on Highway 49 when she lost control for undetermined reasons just south of Lime Kiln Road at about 7:15 p.m., said California Highway Patrol Grass Valley spokesman Greg Tassone.

Tassone said the Subaru rotated and veered across three lanes of traffic, where it was struck by a 2012 Lincoln sedan traveling north on Highway 49. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene, Tassone said.

The driver of the Lincoln, Whitney Anderson, 51, of North Auburn, and a passenger, her juvenile daughter whose age was not available, sustained moderate injuries and were taken by ground ambulance to Sutter Roseville hospital. Their current status was not available, but Tassone said they were still hospitalized as of Sunday morning.

Tassone said the CHP will be investigating the cause of the crash, but he said there were no immediate indications of issues regarding speed, drugs or alcohol, or texting or talking on a cellphone.
