McKeesport, PA : Man dead after vehicle crashes into East Hills building early Thursday, July 28, 2016

A man died when his car crashed into a convenience store in Pittsburgh's East Hills neighborhood early Thursday, according to police.

The crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. on Frankstown Avenue, according to Public Safety spokeswoman Emily Schaffer.

Police said Leon Spearman III, 28, was speeding outbound on Frankstown when he lost control of the Jetta he was driving near the intersection of Dornbush Street.

The car ran over a curb, struck a telephone pole and flipped onto its roof, coming to rest when the passenger side struck the convenience store, Schaffer said.

She said Spearman was not wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jesse Miles said he has run the Frankstown Road convenience store out of the rented building for about two years. He said a similar crash happened in late 2014, but the store sustained much more damage this time.

“We have to wait and see what the inspectors say,” said Miles, 29, of Larimer. “If they say it's repairable, we'll move forward. If not, we'll move forward.”

The crash remains under investigation.
