Sierra Vista,AZ : Demolition begins on Prince Drive wreckage on September, Tuesday 5th 2017

The city began the demolition process Tuesday morning of a home on Prince Drive that was consumed by flames earlier this year. The clean up is expected to last until Monday and comes after nearly two months of waiting for the property owner to take action on demolition orders, city officials say.

“The condition of the property after the fire was determined to be unsafe,” said Matthew McLachlan, director of the Community Development Department. “We had isused a letter on July 11, 2017 to the property owner and mortgage holder stating that we are requiring them to take action for demolition.”

The property owner — whose name was not released by city officials — was served with a demolition order shortly after the fire and received one 30-day extension while the mortgage company pursued its own investigation. Jessica Vannoy, a code enforcement office with the community development office, said after a second failure to respond to the city’s request, the department started its own clean up process with RDI Construction Inc.
