San Jose, CA : 21-year-old man driving a stolen car died in crash along I-280 on Wednesday, Nov 18, 2015

A 21-year-old man driving a stolen car led the California Highway Patrol on a high-speed chase for about 30 minutes early Wednesday died when he tried to exit Interstate 280 in San Jose at 100 mph and rolled his vehicle multiple times, according to law enforcement authorities.The Santa Clara County Coroner's Office has identified the man as Daniel Avalos, 21, of San Jose.There was also a female passenger about 18 years old from Los Banos riding in the stolen Honda, CHP Officer Ross Lee said. She suffered minor injuries.The chase began at about 3:20 a.m. in the Gilroy area when CHP officers spotted a white Honda Accord speeding on northbound Highway 101 and attempted to pull over the car, according to Lee. The driver did not stop and began driving faster than 100 mph, Lee said.The driver then traversed several South Bay freeways. He continued on 101 to northbound Interstate 880 and continued to Highway 237, took the ramp, turned around and went back on southbound 880. The driver continued on 880 to southbound 17, connected to northbound Highway 85 and then to southbound 280.After nearly 30 minutes in the San Jose area, the driver tried to exit 280 at the Winchester Boulevard exit, Lee said.The end of the exit features a long, swooping right curve and the driver failed to navigate the turn, Lee said. The Honda slammed into a dirt shoulder and went airborne. The car landed on the dirt shoulder, rolled a couple of times and crashed into a tree just before 4 a.m.The driver maintained speeds of 100 mph during the chase and cut off drivers throughout, Lee said."He very dangerous and reckless on the road, so our guys stayed in it until the conclusion," Lee said.The first CHP vehicle behind the Honda clipped a sign while getting off 280 and ended up with a cracked windshield, Lee said. One of the CHP officers received scratches to his hand.
