Fort Wayne, IN : Teen dies in toll road car crash on Sunday, March 5th 2017
A teenage boy died in a single-vehicle crash Sunday when his father, while suffering a medical condition, tried to pull onto the shoulder of the Indiana Toll Road, Indiana State Police said in a news release.
According to police, Sean Hubbard, 44, of Chicago experienced uncontrollable coughing or choking and temporarily lost his vision about 4:20 p.m. while driving a red 2015 Dodge Journey carrying four passengers, a woman and three children.
Hubbard apparently hit the accelerator instead of the brake as he tried to pull onto the shoulder near mile-marker 140 in Steuben County, police said.
The vehicle reportedly left the roadway, entered the north ditch, slid sideways and struck a tree.
His 15-year-old son was pronounced dead at the scene from head trauma, police said.
Hubbard’s 8-year-old daughter was flown to Parkview hospital in Fort Wayne while Hubbard and his 17-year-old son were taken to Parkview by ambulance, police reported.
The woman was uninjured, police said.
