Gaston County, NC : Man charged with DWI in deadly Gastonia crash on Saturday morning, Sep 19, 2015

A man is charged with DWI in a Gastonia crash that left one woman dead Saturday morning.

Jonny Worthy, 59 of Lincolnton, is dead after being hit by 59-year-old Norman Dunaway Jr. on East Garrison Boulevard near Peachtree Street, officials say.

Dunaway was driving a 2000 Chevrolet pickup around 12:16 a.m. when police say he crossed the center line and hit Worthy's vehicle, a 1993 Chevrolet Caviler. Worthy was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center where she later died from her injuries.

A passenger, 47-year-old Carol Hicks, was in the car with Worthy when the crash happened. EMS assisted Hicks but her condition has not been released.

Officials say additional charges are possible for Dunaway. Alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors to the crash, Gastonia police say.
