PACHECO, CA : Fatal crash near East Bay airport on Tuesday, 9th December, 2019

A man who died when his moving vehicle slammed into a parked one near Buchanan Field Airport has been identified by authorities.

The California Highway Patrol said Momchil Mihov, 35, of Walnut Creek, died at the scene after the crash Monday night. Authorities suspect the gray 2011 Suzuki SX4 he drove may have been speeding when it hit a parked 2014 Freight-liner truck tractor with a trailer.

The crash happened around 10:15 p.m. on Marsh Drive near Sally Ride Drive. Mihov was driving north and veered right, crashing head-on into the rear of the trailer, the CHP said. They don’t know why Mihov lost control, and toxicology tests won’t determine for at least two months whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

Medics tried to save Mihov, but he was declared dead before an ambulance could take him to a hospital.

No one was inside the tractor.
