Axton,VI : Investigation continues into fatal crash in Axton on June, Sunday 11th 2017

An Eden resident has been charged in the Sunday traffic accident that killed a Martinsville man.

The incident happened at 1:45 p.m. on Route 610, near the intersection with Route 1043.

A 2016 Honda Accord was heading south on Route 610 when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road. The driver overcorrected, according to the report from the Virginia State Police, crossing the center line of the road and hitting a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle which was heading in the opposite direction.

The Harley Davidson was driven by a 61-year-old Martinsville man, who later died Sunday from injuries received in the crash. The Honda’s driver was 56-year-old Eden, North Carolina resident William Authur Shipwash. He was taken to Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries received in the crash.
