Omaha, NE : Maria S. Melendez, 38, killed from injuries in a car crash on Interstate 80 in Omaha on Sunday, February 8, 2015
A driver who was critically injured in a crash Monday after she lost control on Interstate 80 has died.
Maria S. Melendez, 38, of Omaha died Sunday night at the Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha police said.
Melendez was driving east on I-80 at 2:01 a.m. when her 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee lost control because of icy road conditions. Her vehicle left the roadway near the 13th Street exit, flipped and hit a light pole.
Melendez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the Jeep. Alcohol was not a factor, police had said.
She was taken to the medical center with severe, life-threatening head injuries.
An autopsy will be performed Monday, officials said.
