CANTERBURY, CT : Woman critical after crash near CT school on Tuesday, 26th March 2019

A Canterbury woman is in critical condition after her car was rear-ended while she was trying to make a turn into the parking lot of a local middle school Tuesday, state police said.
Rebecca Matteau, 34, of Canterbury, was headed eastbound on Route 14 when she stopped to make a left to turn into the entrance of Dr. Helen Baldwin Middle School at around 3 p.m., state police said. As she was stopped, her car was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by Scott Brodeur, 41, with an address listed as a P.O. Box in Central Village, reports said.The force of the crash sent Matteau's car into the westbound lane where it collided with a vehicle driven by 76-year-old Frank Piccone, also of Canterbury, state police said.
Matteau suffered life threatening injuries in the crash and was taken to Hartford Hospital by Life Star, police said. She was listed in critical condition Tuesday, state police said. Piccone suffered minor injuries and was taken to Backus Hospital. Brodeur was not injured.
State police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
