Atomic City, ID : Local woman dies in head-on crash on U.S. Highway 26 near milepost 276 on Saturday, 11th January, 2020

A local woman died Saturday as a result of injuries sustained in a head-on vehicle collision on a rural Southeast Idaho highway near Atomic City, according to an Idaho State Police news release.

Around 5 a.m. Saturday, state police investigated the fatal crash on U.S. Highway 26 near milepost 276, northwest of Atomic City.Sally Larsen, 44, of Blackfoot, was driving a 2003 Ford Windstar van eastbound on Highway 26 and Brody Tripp, 40, of Chubbuck, was driving a 2019 Toyota Tundra pickup westbound on the highway, police said.

Tripp crossed the center line and struck Larsen’s vehicle head-on, police said.

Larsen was not wearing a seat belt and succumbed to her injuries on scene, said police, adding that Tripp was wearing a seatbelt and was not transported.

Both lanes of travel on Highway 26 were blocked for approximately five hours as police investigated the scene.
