Marlborough, MA : Two people seriously injured in car, tractor trailer crash on I-290 in Marlborough on Thursday, January 29, 2015

Two people were seriously injured Thursday when their car rear-ended a tractor trailer on Interstate 290 in Marlborough.

A tractor trailer and two cars were involved in the crash in the eastbound lanes of the highway just before 9.52 a.m.

A 1998 Subaru Forester driven by a 37-year-old Haverhill man with a passenger, a 34-year-old Worcester woman, rear-ended a tractor trailer that had stopped in traffic approaching the I-495 interchange. The Subaru was then rear-ended by a 2008 Chevy Silverado driven by a 58-year-old Charlton man.

The driver and passenger of the Subaru sustained serious injuries and were flown by medical helicopter to UMass Medical Center in Worcester. The driver of the pickup was taken to Marlborough Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 49-year-old man from Old Town, Maine, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
