Omaha, NE : Five people injured in a crash on I-680 at West Dodge Road on Saturday night, Nov 28, 2015
Omaha police say five people are hurt- one with life-threatening injuries- after attempting to drive through a grass median along Interstate 680.
Officers were dispatched to the I-680 eastbound off-ramp at West Dodge Road around 11:45 Saturday night.
Investigators say a 2005 Chevy Malibu was traveling north on the interstate and went past the exit ramp at West Dodge Road. The driver then tried to cross the median at highway speed and lost control, police say.
The car spun, crossed all lanes of traffic and hit an exit sign.
All five occupants were taken to the hospital.
Police say the driver, Jawaun Gaines of Omaha, had to be extricated by rescue crews. He is being treated for a brain bleed and punctured lungs.
The Nebraska State Patrol and the Nebraska Department of Roads were on scene to assist. Police say speed was a factor in this crash, but it remains under investigation.
