Barberton, OH : 15-year-old driver dead, two 14-year-old passengers injured in a fatal crash in Barberton early Thursday, March 24, 2016
The three people involved in a fatal crash in Barberton early Thursday were all under the age of 16.
A 15-year-old boy died in the crash. Two 14-year-old boys were injured.
Barberton police were alerted around 4:45 a.m. that New Franklin police were pursuing a vehicle in their city. According to police, the teens were driving erratically and playing 'chicken' with other drivers. Speeds were estimated at 70 mph.
A short time later, Barberton officers saw the vehicle speeding through the intersection of North Van Buren Avenue and East Park Avenue.
The 2000 Chevrolet Impala missed the curve at the intersection and went off the road, taking out a telephone pole before crashing into an embankment.
The driver, Seth Pallone, 15, of Norton, was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Administrators say he was a sophomore at Barberton High School.
Two 14-year-old boys were injured. They were taken to Akron Children's Hospital for treatment. The condition of those boys is unknown at this time. One of the teens is an 8th grader at Barberton Middle School. The other is an 8th grader in Springfield.
