Billings, MT : One person died, 1 injured in crash with Toyota SUV south of Laurel on Monday morning, December 28, 2015
One person died and another was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening after a two-vehicle crash south of Laurel on Monday morning, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.
The collision happened on U.S. Highway 212 near Laurel's water treatment plant and a Yellowstone River bridge at about 11:45 a.m.
MHP Trooper Craig Baum said that a Toyota 4Runner traveling northbound on Highway 212 crossed the center line and struck a minivan heading south.
A 71-year-old male driving the van was killed. He had four other passengers in the van, Baum said, including an infant and a toddler.
The 32-year-old male driving the 4Runner was taken to an area hospital with what officials said were injuries that were not life-threatening.
No tickets have been issued and the crash remains under investigation, Baum said. The driver of the van has not been identified pending notification of the family.
Northbound traffic on the highway was being routed through Thiel Road. Southbound traffic crawled around the crash scene. The road conditions were dry and clear.
The 4Runner had Carbon County license plates while the van was registered in Yellowstone County.
