CHERRY VALLEY, IL : Man killed in one-car crash in Cherry Valley on Wednesday, December, 27th 2017
A man was killed early Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash after striking several trees in Boone County, authorities said.
Cherry Valley Police Chief Robert Swank said police were called just before 3 a.m. by a passerby who spotted the crashed sedan off Newburg and Shaw roads, just inside Boone County. The vehicle was westbound on Newburg when the crash occurred sometime between 1:30 a.m. and just before 3 a.m., Swank said.
“For an unknown reason, he crossed (into) the oncoming lane of traffic, went up an embankment and struck several trees,” Swank said.
The man, whose name has not been released pending family notification, had to be extricated from the car. He was alone in the car. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
“We’re still trying to put the pieces together so we don’t know at this point” what might have caused the crash, Swank said. “The car was very, very heavily damaged.”
