A 48-year-old Fernandina Beach man died when the car he was riding in overturned in a crash early Sunday in Nassau County.
Daniel Ray Cowart was a passenger in a Ford Fusion driven by Mary F. Leblanc, 48, of Yulee, who was taken in serious condition to UF Health Jacksonville following the crash shortly before 2 a.m., according to the Florida
Highway Patrol.
The car was northbound on Black Rock Road north of Florida A1A when it veered off the roadway and overturned several times before coming to rest on its roof. It was unknown whether either Leblanc or Cowart had been
wearing safety belts, the Highway Patrol said.
