HIGH FOREST TOWNSHIP, MN : 20-year-old Altura woman is dead after a car-versus-semi collisio on Wednesday, 14th March 2018
Minnesota State Patrol officials say a 20-year-old Altura woman is dead after a car-versus-semi collision occurred shortly after 11:34 a.m. today.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Highway 30 and County Road 8, just south of the Rochester Airport.
The Minnesota State Patrol says the woman, whose name will be released this evening, failed to stop at a stop sign. She was traveling southbound in a car on County Road 8 and collided in the intersection with a semi driver who was headed eastbound on Highway 30, according to Sgt. Troy Christianson.
The woman's vehicle struck the rear duals of the semi's trailer and was dragged eastbound. Christianson said she was killed instantly.
The driver of the semi is uninjured.
The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, the Stewartville Fire Department, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation also responded.
Christianson said he expects a full report will be issued once the woman is identified and her family is notified.
MnDOT announced shortly after noon that Highway 30 is closed and drivers are being detoured near County Road 8.
Drivers may experience delays, as traffic is expected to be detoured for several hours, according to the MnDOT release. MnDOT advises motorists to be alert for emergency vehicles and personnel and to use slower speeds.
