SPRING LAKE TWP, MI : Spring Lake woman on cellphone injured in 2-vehicle crash on Friday, January 27th 2017

A Spring Lake woman was injured in a near-head-on crash Friday afternoon when she was using her cellphone while driving, police said.Charmaine Curtis, 61, was taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital with minor injuries after the crash.

The crash happened on Leonard Road, near the River Run subdivision in Spring Lake Township, at 12:28 p.m. Police said Curtis was driving her 2003 Mercury Sable west on Leonard in the curved section of the road when she crossed the center line and “side-swiped” an eastbound pickup truck.

“The investigation shows that while in this curved section of roadway, Curtis was operating her cellphone,” said Sgt. Brian Buter of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Buter said the driver of the 2016 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, 42-year-old Brenda Marek of Spring Lake, was not injured.

Curtis was cited for careless driving, Buter said.
