Benavides, TX : Man dead after wreck on State Highway 359 in Duval County on Tuesday morning, July 26, 2016

A man is dead after his car overturned Tuesday morning on State Highway 359 in Duval County, Department of Public Safety officials said.

According to a Department of Public Safety news release, about 10 a.m. a 68-year-old man drove a 2016 Ford F-350 pickup on State Highway 359 about seven miles north of Benavides.

The man, who was identified as James Edward Smith of Hebbronville, drove out of his lane into the shoulder and struck a bridge guard rail, the release states.

The pickup overturned off the roadway and landed on the cab at the bottom of a creek bed.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, the release states.

It is unclear why Smith drove out of his lane. Troopers continue to investigate the wreck.
