Birmingham, AL : Man dies after car crashes into home, catches fire on Sunday, December 27, 2015

Police are investigating an incident in which a man crashed his car into a southwest Birmingham home and later died.

Birmingham police Sgt. Bryan Shelton tells local media that police responded Sunday evening to a report of a car that had crashed into a house. The first officer arrived on scene to find the car on fire and the driver still inside.

The officer pulled the man out of the car and paramedics treated him, however Shelton says he was later pronounced dead at a hospital. He says the preliminary investigation shows the man possibly died from injuries sustained in the crash, but that will have to be determined by the coroner's office.

The man's name is being withheld pending notification of his family.
