Culpeper,VI : Two from Culpeper die in fiery crash on June, Monday 12th 2017
A Good Samaritan from Culpeper suffered serious burns early Monday when he tried to help two motorists trapped in a car that caught fire following a three-vehicle wreck at U.S. 29 and Freemans Ford Road in Remington.
The driver of the Oldsmobile that caught fire, Juan Lopez Jimenez, 37, of Culpeper, and his passenger, Hortencia Lainez Lopez, 38, of Culpeper, both died at the scene, according to Virginia State Police.
Trooper C.R. Scally responded to the Fauquier County crash at 7:29 a.m. Monday that involved the 2000 Oldsmobile and a 2011 Toyota Corolla, both stopped at a traffic light in the northbound lanes of U.S. 29.
As a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck approached the intersection with Freeman’s Ford Road, it failed to stop in time, police said.
The truck hit the stopped Oldsmobile, causing it to spin into the median where it caught fire.
The driver of the F-250 – a 34-year-old man from Gordonsville – then struck the Toyota, according to police. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
