Killeen, TX : 33-year-old man killed in a motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 190 on Monday night, May 9, 2016
Police in Killeen identified a motorcyclist who was killed on U.S. Highway 190 on Monday night as 33-year-old Ellsworth Allen Raup III.
Raup was traveling eastbound on U.S. 190 and had come upon construction near the Knight’s Way exit, according to Ofelia Miramontez, a spokeswoman for the Killeen Police Department.
But as traffic slowed, Miramontez said the motorcyclist “was following too closely” and collided with the back of a 1998 Toyota Sienna van.
“Upon the officer’s arrival, they located a black motorcycle on its side and the operator of the motorcycle inside the van,” Miramontez said in a news release.
Police responded to the accident about 8 p.m. and soon after, Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The driver of the van was transported to nearby Seton Hospital with minor injuries.
“This crash continues to be investigated by the Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit,” Miramontez said in the news release.
Monday night’s death marks at least the fourth motorcycle-related fatality in the Killeen-Fort Hood area this year.
