Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania
Wilkinsburg police shot a man who rammed a police car and drove away from an attempted traffic stop Monday morning, Allegheny County police said.
The incident began about 5:30 a.m. when borough officers tried to arrest Todd Anthony Robinson — also known as Todd Anthony Glover — in the parking lot of McDonald's on Penn Avenue, according to county police Superintendent Coleman McDonough.
Robinson had violated his parole for a 1995 homicide conviction, McDonough said.
When police approached Robinson in the McDonald's parking lot, he got into his vehicle and twice backed into the Wilkinsburg cruiser, McDonough said. No one was in the police car when Robinson rammed it.
The Wilkinsburg officers, who were beside Robinson's vehicle, fired up to four shots at Robinson as he drove west on Penn Avenue before striking a utility pole and crashing, McDonough said. Police found Robinson hiding nearby, bleeding from a gunshot wound.
Paramedics took Robinson to a hospital where he underwent surgery. Police expected him to survive.
Investigators did not name the officers involved or say whether they would remain on duty while county police investigated. Wilkinsburg Chief Ophelia Coleman could not be reached for comment.
