Police say a 21-year-old North Portland man was impaired and driving at a high rate of speed early Sunday morning when he struck and killed a pedestrian.
The incident was reported at N Lombard Street and Peninsular Avenue just after 1 a.m. when a Ford Explorer driven by 21-year-old Matthew Tyler Freeman crashed into a power pole.
About a block away from the crash, police found the body of a 27-year-old man in the intersection. His name hasn't been released.
Police say Freeman was driving at a high rate of speed when he struck a pedestrian and then crashed into a pole. He was arrested for manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving and DUII.
He's due in court Monday.
