Mt. Juliet, TN : Tractor trailer carrying several hundred beehives rolled over in an area just outside of Mt. Juliet in Wilson County on Monday afternoon, March 7, 2016

A tractor trailer carrying several hundred beehives rolled over in an area just outside of Mt. Juliet in Wilson County.

Media outlets report that the crash happened Monday afternoon in a rural area about three miles south of Interstate 40. The driver told first responders his GPS took him in the wrong direction, leading him to Posey Hill Road, where the crash occurred.

Wilson County Sheriff Robert Bryan says the truck was hauling about 420 beehives. Several bees escaped and were swarming around the truck, making it difficult for emergency crews to get to the driver trapped inside the cab.

Beekeepers responded to the area to assist deputies in controlling the bees. Each hive was estimated to contain between 20,000 and 60,000 bees.

Posey Hill Road was closed while crews worked the scene.
