A woman was killed when an SUV crashed into a creek in western Rowan County Wednesday, according to officials.
The accident happened on the 900 block of Edmiston Road, which is near Mt. Ulla. Police have not released many details about the crash, but confirmed that the woman, later identified as 41-year-old Brandy Jackie Barnhardt, was killed in the crash.
Troopers said Barnhardt wasn't wearing a seatbelt at the time and was thrown from the vehicle.
From WBTV's Sky 3, a single white SUV could be seen in a wooded area with a creek just off of a bridge. The vehicle appeared to be heavily damaged.
It is not clear what may have caused the wreck or if any other injuries were reported.
