OLD WASHINGTON, OH : A crash morning on Interstate 70 on Wednesday, July 19, 2017
A crash Wednesday morning on Interstate 70 resulted in injuries to one of two motorists involved.
According to Tpr. Brian Neff of the Cambridge post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Phillip Wood, 60, of Flowood, Miss., was eastbound near milepost 191, east of Old Washington, a few minutes past 9:40 a.m. when his tractor-trailer was struck.
Neff said Jill Williams, 22, was driving at a high rate of speed when her 2013 Chevrolet Sonic struck the right rear tire and mudflap of the tanker trailer.
Both vehicles were traveling in the outside passing lane at the time of the crash.
Wood reportedly initially believed his rig sustained a tire "blowout."
The Sonic entered the median following the impact with the tractor-trailer. Wood safely stopped his rig.
The crash did not result in lane closures.
A crew from United Ambulance Service transported Williams to Southeastern Med for evaluation and treatment for reported back injuries.
Wood was not injured.
Neff said neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the crash.
The Sonic received major damage. Williams was charged with failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.
Volunteer firefighters from Old Washington assisted at the scene as needed.
