HELENDALE, CA : Barstow man killed in desert crash on Sunday, 7th July 2019
The California Highway Patrol said a 56-year-old Barstow man was killed Sunday in a crash in a remote desert area.
In a news release, the CHP said the man was driving a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer SUV west on Shadow Mountain Road about three miles east of U.S. Highway 395 at an unknown time.
The vehicle drifted onto the north dirt shoulder of the road, then veered across the east and west lanes, hitting a dirt berm on the south side of Shadow Mountain Road, according to the CHP.
Striking the berm caused the vehicle to “overturn multiple times in the open desert,” the news release said. The driver, whose name has not been released, was not wearing a seatbelt and was killed when ejected from the SUV, the CHP said.
