One man is dead after officials discovered a vehicle Wednesday afternoon that was involved in a single-car crash in Coralville, and they aren't sure when the crash occurred.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, 36-year-old Justin Witter of Center Point died when he drove off the curved ramp merging from Highway 218 to Interstate 80.

Iowa State Patrol officials discovered the crash scene about 2 p.m. Wednesday. State Patrol Sgt. Nathan Ludwig said officials are unsure when the crash occurred and are investigating the incident.

“They’re trying to determine when exactly it happened," he said.

Ludwig said officials are consulting with Witter's family to determine when those who knew him last heard from him.

Witter was driving a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup truck, the report said. He was taken to the Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office after the crash.

Officials said they believe Witter lost control of the vehicle on the ramp and hit a gorge, causing his vehicle to vault into a bridge footing, where it came to rest.
